Project Description
Post Prahran College – the first year after graduating
Personal and pro bono work during 1977
Concurrently I was working to establish my commercial/industrial practice at a time when very few female photographers worked in that area. The first 5 years were extremely challenging and very hard work. The interview with Merle Hathaway [curator and archivist, former Director Horsham Regional Art Gallery] at this link gives more information and imagery about that time.

I was photographing a factory in Preston – one of the hundreds I photographed during my career – but this was the only time I photographed a tea lady. An oversight I regret, as they seem to have disappeared and I could have built up a huge body of work on that very interesting subject. Unfortunately I didn’t, Preston, 1977

Tammy Parker – whom I greatly admire – with her baby. Photographed at BSL, Action Resource Centre, where Tammy was a willing and helpful part of the community. Julie Millowick had known Tammy for a year when this image was made. Over a 40+ year career this image remains one of my favourites, Fitzroy, 1977 NGV Acquisition
